About the most beautiful Spitzkoppe Camp
About the most beautiful Spitzkoppe Camp
–
Spitzkoppe is one of the most fascinating landscapes in Namibia and our favorite campsite on our whole Namibia trip. We highly recommend spending there two nights if you have a car with a tent. Otherwise, you can also visit this place for a day trip. It is not without reason that the sharp Spitzkoppe mountain is called the Matterhorn of Namibia. You can walk to a pool on the rocks, visit a beautiful arch and you can climb to the summit with a guide.
The roads to Spitzkoppe – a beautiful mountain silhouette
From Etosha National Park we drove on the big C38 road towards the South. We fastly decided to take the smaller, more beautiful D gravel roads to Spitzkoppe. After the little village Outjo, we passed Khorixas and Uis. We had the most amazing view from Uis to Spitzkoppe! The silhouette of the big mountains looked so beautiful! The temperature indicator showed already 35 degree. On our way to Spitzkoppe we saw many African people who tried to sell some jewellry as well as kids begging for water. It’s really sad to see.
Arriving at Spitzkoppe – Things to do
Well, the campsite is an adventure in itself and we highly recommend staying there for two nights but there are also amazing hikes you can do! If you don’t like to stay on a campsite you can book a room in the private chalets of Spitzkoppe Lodge. We only stayed at the camp!
1. The Camp
We highly recommend
We stayed only for 1 night but we highly recommend to relax here for two nights. On our trip, Spitzkoppe Camp was the only campsite in Namibia with such a massive playground and natural scenery!
2. Climbing to the Arch
After setting up our camp, we climbed up to the arch. It’s only a 5 minute hike but it’s extremely beautiful up there! We had to leave our tripod with the camera and self-timer at the bottom while we were running up the rocks to the perfect picture point under the arch. Everyone was clapping their hands when we finally got it ;). The arch is beautiful from both sides and you can explore the surrounding rocks from there!
3. The Waterhole
In the morning
4. The starry sky
After enjoying the beautiful sunset we had a lovely dinner under the most amazing sky!! We were so
5. A guided walk to the top of the mountain
We would have loved to do the guided tour to the top of the Spitzkoppe. The guides told us it’s too dangerous to go there on your own.
Back to Windhoek
It was time to drive back to Windhoek, although we would have loved to stay longer at Spitzkoppe camp! It’s the perfect place for the last night before driving back to Windhoek because it’s only a 3-hour drive, a comparatively short drive for Namibia ;). Spitzkoppe camp is also the perfect place to start your adventure coming from Windhuk!

hi, I discovered your site, it’s gorgeous!
I am planning my trip to Namibia and I am choosing the campsite near the SpitzKoppe.
My guidebook suggests “Spitzkoppe Campsite”, but the photos on the internet don’t seem to be the same as yours. It also has no private facilities. There is only a shower near the reception.
What is the name of the campsite you stayed at?
Thanks.
Best regards.
Michela
Hi Michela,
thank you so much for your words! It’s called Spitzkoppen Comunity Campsite on maps.
It’s really basic but we absolutely loved this place! You have a big area for yourself between these beautiful rocks. Every campsite has a private little toilet if I remember it right. But there are only outdoor showers next to the reception. However for one or two nights it worked for us :).
We wish you an incredible time in Namibia!!
