Exploring the beautiful city Florence

Exploring the beautiful city Florence

If you are planning a road trip through Tuscany, don’t skip Florence! This city is so beautiful and has so much to offer! You have to see the palazzi of the former famous families Medici, Rucellai, Strozzi and Vecchio. The Piazza del Duomo ist so beautiful with its 3 buildings, the dome, the tower and the octagon. Afterwards, buy a panini and have a walk at the Ponte Vecchio.

1. Piazza del Duomo

This piazza is so beautiful because of its three different buildings, the dome, the tower and the octagon. Walking between the three buildings, you will find a new view from every angle. We would recommend to be there in the early morning for sunrise, afterwards it gets busy and postcard stalls block the views. However, in the evening you will find musicians around the dome.

2. The best roof top terrace at Terrazzo Sul Duomo

This roof top terrace is perfect to see the sun rising behind the dome or the sun going down while illuminating the dome. Both is really beautiful! You can escape the hectic up here and have a closer look at the dome. Take a coffee with you in the morning or a wine glass in the evening. Actually it began to rain this evening, but it was still stunning ;).

3. Palazzo Medici Riccarda

The palace of the Medici family was built in the 15th century. Look at how different the facade of the three floors are built. In the patio you will find arcades and sculptures.

4. Santa Maria Novella

This church is famous for its green and white marble facade designed by the famous architect Leon Battista Alberti in the 15th century. The symmetry is beautiful!

5. Palazzo Rucellai

Palazzo Rucellai is one of the most beautiful Florentine palaces by a Renaissance style. Similar to the other palaces, the Palazzo Rucellai has a facade division into three. Today the palazzo is a museum. The stone bench is the perfect place for a break.

6. Palazzo Strozzi

Also the rich family Strozzi built a palazzo in 15th century. The palazzo looks a little less detailed than Palazzo Medici or Palazzo Rucellai.

7. Palazzo Vecchio and Loggia dei Lanzi

This building built in 13th century with its big medieval tower looks like a castle. But it was the seat of Gouvernement for a long time. Today it is the town hall of Florence. Inside you can find Michelangelos David. Directly next to the palace you will find Loggia dei Lanzi.

8. Ponte Vecchio

After visiting all the palazzi you should grab a panini and have a walk at the river until you arrive at the Ponte Vecchio. It’s actually a built over bridge in orange and red colors.

9. Santa Croce

Well this church isn’t as famous as the dome, but isn’t it beautiful as well? The square in front of the church is perfect for taking pictures.

10. Panini at Osteria All’antico Vinaio

This panini shop is crazy! With thousands of good reviews on trip-advisor and three shops in the street with long lines, it is a must visit in Florence. Buy one (they also have vegetarian and vegan options) and walk to the river.

Where to eat?

– Floret at La Terrazza Luisaviaroma Arts of Kitchen Bar
– Osteria Nuvoli: sehr beliebt bei Einheimischen, vegane Optionen
– Gelateria Eduardo, vegane Eissorten

Where to park your car?

The easiest way is to park your car at the motorway at Scandicci for 7 € a day. Take the tram directly next to the parking space for 1,50€ to get to the city center. It will take you 20 minutes. Don’t drive your car in the limited city center areas called zona traffica limitato, the punishment is really high.

Oh Florence!
