Our 8 favorite waterfalls in Bali

Our 8 favorite waterfalls in Bali

Bali is known for the incredible beaches, food heaven, beautiful temples and the special culture. But, did you know that apart from these things Bali is home to some of the most surreal waterfalls? And there are so many beautiful waterfalls on this island in the middle of the jungle! You can explore all these waterfalls easily by scooter or you hire a day driver. In most of the waterfalls it is possible to swim, so bring some bathing clothes!

1. Tibumana Waterfall

Only a 25-minute scooter ride from Ubud centre you can experience this perfectly falling waterfall in the middle of the jungle in the East of Ubud. They charge 15.000 IDR per person. The way down is easy to walk, no rip-off with guides or extra fees. When we’ve been there we crashed an engagement photo shoot. If you come early, there aren’t a lot of tourists. This waterfall still isn’t that touristic.

Just before arriving at the entry for the waterfall you will drive through beautiful rice fields and a street with palm trees on both sides. Stop at your way back and take some pictures!

2. Tupak Cepung Waterfall

You might know this picture from the sun ray pictures on Instagram. It’s located in the East of Ubud and easily reachable by scooter. If you come early you might be alone here and don’t have to pay any entrance fees. Unfortunately the sun rays are coming a little later, when most of the tourists arrive. To get to the waterfall, you have to climb over a few bigger muddy rocks.

3. Nung Nung Waterfall

For this waterfall you should plan a day trip if you start with a scooter from in the centre of Ubud. It’s located in the North of Bali and you will need around 1,5 hours to get there. You can combine this one with Leke Leke Waterfall. We arrived there around midday and there were a few tourists. Most of them are standing on the left side, walk the path on the ride side, climb over some rocks and you will find the perfect picture spot! The entrance fee is 10.000 IDR per person. The way down to the waterfall was exhausting.

4. Leke – Leke Waterfall

This waterfall is close to Nung Nung, but a lot more touristic, therefore they charge 50.000 IDR per person. From Nung Nung you will need another 30 minutes. You have to pass a few touristic stalls until you reach the fall at the bottom. there is stone in front of the waterfall which you should climb for a picture!

5. Sekumpul Waterfall

We stayed at a hotel near the two lakes in the North. From there we needed 1 hour with a scooter to get to Sekumpul Waterfall. The streets were really good but you have to drive some serpentines. Unfortunately the locals already try to sell you a guide for a lot of money at the streets towards the waterfall who wants to accompany you on a scooter. Say no! It’s a rip-off.

Arriving at the main entrance of the waterfall it’s actually not possible to go down the few steps without a guide for 120.000 IDR. Some people told us that there is a second entrance to the waterfall where you have to pay only 15.000 IDR without a guide. On your way down to the waterfall you pass a smaller Hidden Fall. If you come early there aren’t a lot of people and the fall is still in the shadow. Be careful it’s really wet and slippery down there! The waterfall actually consists of several falls and it looks absolutely fascinating!

6. Aling-Aling Waterfall

This waterfall is so cool! If you are staying at the two lakes in the North of Bali Aling Aling Waterfall is reachable in 45 minutes with a scooter. For 30.000 IDR you are allowed to take pictures but you aren’t allowed to jump. For 125.000 IDR you can jump from several platforms and several heights. Unfortunately there is no ticket for jumping only from this one point. However we really liked this place!

7. Git-Git Waterfall

If you visit Aling Aling Waterfall you should definitely combine it with visiting Git Git Waterfall. We’ve been at Git Git Twin Waterfall close to the street, there is a second one further away. It’s only a short way down to the waterfall, you don’t need a guide and they don’t charge any fee. Walk on the left side between the rocks until you rech the waterfall, on the right side is a little cave where you can put your belongings while you swim. The water is really refreshing in the heat of the jungle. This waterfall is still a secret tip – it isn’t touristic at all. We didn’t expect this waterfall to be so beautiful.

8. Tegenungan Waterfalls

The Tegenungan Waterfalls are very crowded, but if you hike up the stairs and walk along the jungle trail you will be on your own. We even saw some big monkeys there.
Tip: Tibumana Waterfalls are a lot more unknown and also close to Ubud centre.

Connect with nature, soak in the calmness of your surroundings!
