Explore the South of Bali with us – Uluwatu

The South of Bali is one of our favorite spots for some chill time at the beach and surfing sessions! Uluwatu Beach is a very popular spot for professional surfers, some of them even start in a cave. The high rocks are beautiful and there are many secret bays to explore. Uluwatu and the Bukit Peninsula with the famous cliffs is the perfect first or last stop of your visit in Bali, because it’s so close to the airport.

1. Uluwatu Cliff – Karang Boma Cliff

Karang Boma Cliff is located in the West of the Peninsula and for sure the most beautiful viewpoint here. Come here for sunset and you can see the sun going down behind the horizon over the ocean. Walk down the path along the cliffs and take a picture of this perfectly formed cliff.

2. The Edge and One Eighty

We only stayed there in the evening to watch the sunset in the famous pool with a large overhang on the cliffs, named the edge. This pool is incredible! We were also able to test the blue waterfall next to the pool and the new restaurant one eigthy. You can stay there for the night or buy a day pass for the beach club. They created an incredible three-course menu for us!!

3. Eat at Muzz Restaurant

We didn’t had a lot of time to try different restaurants in Uluwatu, but this one really got our hearts. The interior is really beautiful and the food taste so good! All of their meals are organic and the vegan Jackfruit Curry was so good!

4. Visit Uluwatu Temple and walk the coast trail

We booked an Uber and drove to Uluwatu temple. The circular route is very beautiful and the view over the ocean amazing! The walk along the coastline blew our mind! Bring your own Sarong or get one at the entrance.

5. Uluwatu Beach & Suluban Cave

At Uluwatu Beach we found a lot of surfers, one guy even started in the cave Suluban/ Blue Point! From the top, we had a very good view at the surfers. Walk up the stairs and get a tasty bowl from Nalu bowls while watching the surfers. Padang Padang beach next to Uluwatu Beach was very crowded.

6. Chill time: Green Bowl Beach, Gunung Payung Beach & Pandawa Beach

We highly recommend Green Bowl Beach, it’s a wonderful remote beach with less tourists and two caves. Gunung Payung Beach is a little secret tip, there were only a few locals but the beach was fantastic!
On our way to Pandawa Beach we saw beautiful statues, unfortunately the beach was very crowded.

7. Adila Bali

We highly recommend this lovely resort. We loved the wooden details, the view over the ocean and the big breakfast table for everyone. The pool is absolutely amazing! We stayed there on our 2nd and 3rd Bali visit, because we absolutely love the vibes there! The house Adila is perched on a hill overlooking the lush green nature and the sea beyond. The two houses that form Adila were designed with ample open spaces to capture the wind and unobstructive view of the wide expanse. The roof top Joglo, the Bale, the pool deck, library and dining room, all add to the total living environment and provides enough gathering spaces for the various activities or just to chill out.

How to get around? The Taxi maffia

If you are coming from the airport it’s the easiest way to book a Grab or Uber to Ubud in the middle of Bali, Canggu on the South-West coast or Uluwatu in the South and to skip the busy roads of Kuta and Denpasar. Kuta is very crowded and you might not get the best impression of Bali. Uluwatu, Canggu and Ubud are perfect to get used to the new culture and temperature after your flight.

We highly recommend to rent a scooter to be able to explore everything on your own without getting exploited by taxi drivers in Uluwatu centre. Outside the centre it’s still possible to order a Grab or Uber driver with moderate prices. But in front of most popular hotels and especially in front of the famous beaches it’s nearly impossible to get one, you can only take a taxi with enormous prices. It happened to us twice, that we jumped in a Grab car and a taxi driver pursued us and threatened our driver until we had to get out.

Also we highly recommend to wear a long trousers although it’s really hot and looks silly (for example on top of a shorts, so you can change quickly). There are so many scooter accidents in Bali, I myself had one and covered legs reduces the injuries a lot! I think we don’t have to remind you to wear a helmet too. Scooters literally cost nothing in Bali, a driver for the whole day is around 35-40$.

Why Bali? Best time to visit?

We love Bali! You might already know, that our first experience in Bali ended with a scooter accident and we had to fly home. But there was something absolutely magical about Bali, we returned a few months later and had the best time of our lives. Today we’ve already been 3 times to Bali. For us, Bali is the perfect mix of adventure, culture and beautiful beaches as well as jungle vibes. Ready for wearing a flower behind your ear? 🙂

December to February is the rainy season in Bali with the highest temperatures. However, we’ve been to Bali in September and March and had only a few rain showers, but mostly sunny days. You can travel to whole Bali and the Gili islands all year round, in low season the resorts are a lot cheaper. There are only more mosquitos. From June to September is the high season in Bali and it will be more touristic.

Bali's most beautiful beaches!
